Buy Ferro Boron

Ferro boron is a ferroalloy comprising boron and iron with boron content ranging from 17.5% to 20%. Among other things, ferro boron is capable of increasing the quenching degree and behaviour of an end alloy and can dramatically increase an alloy’s magnetic susceptibility.

Applications

Ferro boron has a plethora of industrial applications including, but not necessarily limited to:

  • Improving the hardness of low alloy steel

  • As a low loss material for certain magnets

  • The production of cold working wire rods

  • The production of sheet steels for the automotive industry

  • Incorporation in amorphous metals

  • The reduction of nitrogen in low alloy steels

  • The manufacturing of metallic glass

  • Hot spray painting

Ferro Boron: How it’s Made

  • Raw materials for ferro boron production typically include ferroalloys like ferrosilicon, boron compounds such as boric acid and iron.

  • The raw materials are fed into an induction furnace or electric arc furnace (EAF) and melted which produces the desired chemical reactions.

  • In its molten state iron absorbs the boron producing a ferro boron alloy. Manufacturers adjust the boron content of the alloy by adding more or less boron during mixing.

  • Once the composition of the alloy settles into the desired range the molten mixture is poured into molds to solidify.

  • The now cast ferro boron is allowed to cool so that solidification can take place within the moulds. Once solidified that alloy is extracted from the mold and set aside to cool further.

  • In some instances the solidified ferro boron will undergo crushing and sizing in order to produce the appropriate particle size for a given application.

  •  It is imperative that the manufacturer have robust quality control protocols in place during every phase of the ferro boron production process.

  • The finished product is packaged in accordance with the customer’s requirements, (being careful to observe best practices) before being distributed.
